The Milwaukee Brewers have continued their busy off-season, building depth in the minor league system by signing a sizable list of players who will also join or re-join the organization with invites to Spring Training.

Here is a look at each player’s history and potential with the team.

Pitchers

Hiram Burgos RHP

Burgos has been with the Brewers since being drafted in the sixth round of the 2009 MLB Amateur Draft. Although he’s shown flashes of brilliance and already made an appearance at the big league level in 2013, he’s had a bit of a roller coaster of a career.

Although his 4.40 earned run average in 2016 doesn’t look spectacular, it was enough to earn him the honors of becoming the Triple-A Colorado Sky Sox Pitcher of the Year. Considering he pitched in the toughest park in the minors, it was still a good sign that the 29-year-old’s tenure in the organization may not come to an end as some predicted.

His persistence has continued to pay off throughout the off-season in the Puerto Rican Winter League as well, as he’s already posted a 2.37 ERA and 0.89 walks plus hits per inning while striking out 31 and walking only six in 38 innings.

With the interest Milwaukee has been fielding about some of their starting pitchers, Burgos could add a significant amount of depth to the rotation. Even if he doesn’t break camp with the team, which is more likely than not, if he continues pitching well, he could be making a case for himself as a spot starter or long relief option — especially with the struggles starters like Jimmy Nelson and Wily Peralta showed just this past year and the looming possibility of injuries.
